Neguse is one of the first nine candidates endorsed by the political action committee of the Congressional Progressive Caucus for the 2018 election cycle
Boulder, CO – Today, members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus voted to endorse their first round of candidates for the 2018 election. Former CU Regent Joe Neguse was among nine congressional candidates running in “open-seats” across the country unanimously chosen by the caucus for their initial round of endorsements. If elected, Neguse would be the first African-American elected to Congress from Colorado, and at 33-years old, one of the youngest members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
“The Congressional Progressive Caucus is excited about Joe Neguse’s historic candidacy in Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District and proud to endorse him,” said CPC Co-Chair and U.S. Congressman Mark Pocan (D-WI). “Joe is a progressive leader and public servant who will be a critical advocate in the fight for a Medicare-for-all healthcare system, a $15 minimum wage, and many other progressive policies that will help us build a more just society.”
The Congressional Progressive Caucus consists of seventy-five members of the U.S. House of Representatives and one U.S. Senator, and is the largest caucus within the House Democratic Caucus. The group includes many national progressive leaders, including Co-Chairs Congressman Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) and Congressman Mark Pocan (D-WI), and First-Vice Chair Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA). Founded in 1991, the CPC has led the charge for decades in championing a strong progressive agenda in the U.S. Congress. The CPC’s political committee—the Progressive Action PAC (PAPAC)—works to elect progressive leaders to the Congress who share the caucus’s vision for America’s future.
Joe Neguse said, “I am deeply honored and humbled to have the support of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and to join them in the fight for economic justice, civil rights, and progressive values.” Neguse has also been endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, Democracy for America, and the End Citizens United PAC.
Neguse is an attorney who previously served as a member of the University Of Colorado Board of Regents, representing the Second Congressional District for six years from 2009 through 2015. He also co-founded New Era Colorado, the state’s largest youth voter registration and mobilization organization. Neguse has been endorsed by the entire Democratic state-legislative delegations of Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Summit, Grand, and Larimer Counties.
