Former U.S. Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her organization GiffordsPAC announced their endorsement today of Congressman Joe Neguse’s re-election campaign. GiffordsPAC, founded by Congresswoman Giffords, supports candidates fighting for gun violence prevention. During his first term, Congressman Neguse has made gun violence prevention a top priority, including through his service on the House Judiciary Committee (which is the committee of jurisdiction for gun violence legislation).
Last year, Rep. Neguse was an integral part of passing the Keep American Safe Act, which would ban the sale of high-capacity magazines, and The Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2019. He also successfully pushed for an investigation by the Department of Justice into whether or not the federal government is monitoring state background checks for firearm purchases correctly following the Sol Pais incident, and invited Tom Mauser, whose son Daniel was killed in the Columbine school shooting in 1999, as his guest for the President’s State of the Union address earlier this year.
“I’m proud to have made fighting for gun violence prevention legislation a focus of my first term in Congress and to have once again received the support of Congresswoman Giffords,” Neguse said. “Colorado has been waiting for over 20 years for federal action on gun violence, and we should not have to wait any longer.”
The GiffordsPAC also endorsed Neguse during his successful 2018 bid for Congress.
